Petee's Pie Company

The qualities I tasted 9 years ago are still going strong today and I said a little thank you to God that Petee’s had survived the pandemic.  As soon as the first slice of pie was gone I was back at the counter requesting recommendations for another slice. They do a range of seasonal pies of which we ordered a slice of the guava mascarpone pie. This is possibly the best pie flavour I’ve ever eaten in my life, period. It featured a super silky guava curd that was bright and zingy and singing with tropical sunshine. The faintly pink mascarpone cream piped on top was light and added a beautiful mellowing finish to the sharp guava. This was one of the few times in my life I’d wished my husband wasn’t there.

I first tasted pie from Petee’s Pie Company on my first trip to NYC 9 years ago. It was a happy discovery made while wandering the streets of the Lower East Side one night. My preconceptions of over sugared baked confections kowtowed to perfectly tart, whole fruit fillings and flaky pie crust one can only describe as tender.

Petee’s Pie Company really comes into its own during the festive season. Don’t have the know-how or the means to make a pie to bring along to Thanksgiving dinner? No problem, Petee’s Pie Company to the rescue!

On this latest visit to NYC we would only be catering for two so whole pies were off the menu for us. We’d had a largish dinner at Thai Diner prior so initially ordered a conservative single slice of the sour cherry pie ($7.25) to share.
